Welcome back with the Human of Finance series!

In this episode, we are sharing our interview with Liz Zaki from OneSite Finance sharing her story about coming to Australia, overcoming language barrier, struggling to find a job and finding her passion as a mortgage broker.

Liz came from a small town called Bogor in Indonesia. Her parents sent her to a boarding school in Australia when she was fifteen. The internet was not available back then, and she had to rely on paper dictionaries to learn English. She was very quiet because she was not confident with her English. Playing piano was the only way that could help her to express herself.

After she graduated from University of NSW, she struggled to find a job because of her not so good English ability…still. Nevertheless, she continued to practise and eventually secured a job at Pricewaterhousecoopers. It was at this job that she met her husband. She is thankful that she did not work elsewhere, as she would have missed her husband.

For years of working, Liz has always been interested in exploring what else life has to offer. Then one day, she decided that she wanted to buy an investment property. She was shopping around for a mortgage.

Liz met with various banks and different mortgage brokers but could not find a single person that was able to explain to her all the available loan options, application process, deal structures and many of the other important aspects involved in obtaining a mortgage. She started her research to find a suitable loan for herself and began to like the industry more and more. That's when she knew this was the path for her. She decided to quit her job in IT and started OneSite Finance and has not looked back since
